LIFE OF THE BUTTERFLY

Pub Date: Feb. 19th, 1987
Publisher: Carolrhoda

The life cycle of the peacock butterfly (Nyamphalis io), native to Europe and central Asia, is presented here with outstanding color photographs of every stage of development from egg to adult butterfly. The vivid full-page photos pay careful attention to butterfly, flower and background; close-ups provide sufficient magnification to make details clear without distorting. The readable text, glossary and index combine to make this an attractive and useful science title. While readers may not be familiar with the peacock butterfly, moat will have encountered other members of the Bush-Footed Butterfly family (Nymphalidae), including the tortoise shell, painted lady, and monarch. A brief discussion of these and other butterflies is included at the end of the book. It would have been helpful if the authors had included the scientific names of the butterflies discussed. A welcome addition to the science nature section.
