LALA PETTIBONE'S ACT TWO

A down-on-her-luck widow embarks on a zany Act 2 full of love and adventure.

Lala Pettibone is finally ready to move on after the death of her husband—but then the man she’s secretly in love with, her boss, turns out to have a girlfriend. To make matters worse, her apartment building turns out to have major problems that will cost each resident $40,000. Lala has no choice but to sublet her apartment to make some quick cash and move out to Los Angeles to stay with her aunt Geraldine. Lala quickly starts meeting men, making friends, and volunteering at the animal shelter. However, all the men Lala meets tend to be either moving across the world or completely unavailable. Lala is also working hard to turn her screenplay into a novel, which would be a lot easier if she could stop watching Say Yes to the Dress with her dogs. The story is propelled more by Lala’s voice than by plot; luckily that voice is engaging and unique. It can, however, be exhausting at times. Still, Lala’s zest for life, love of rescue dogs, and solid friendships will keep readers engaged.

Mastrogiovanni’s debut is a story about second chances with a sense of humor.
