An omnium gatherum form this poet is a combination of notes, jottings, articles, thoughts, ideas, incidents, upon which depend a poem, and the whole, in its inquiries and examinations, provides a lovely -- and lively -- excursion in many fields. Diaries- and their keepers, modern poetry, light verse, words and authors, letters, travel, people, the country, personal milestones -- are some of her considerations and, looking in and out, she finds touchstones and yardsticks for her opinions. She writes of the living and the dead, of subjects to write about, of writers and their work, of a variety of sights and scenes; she illumines lines and phrases of others. A most pleasant civilized distraction, this mirrors an interesting -- and interested -- mind.
