GOLDEN TALES OF THE SOUTHWEST

An addition to a well established series of regional stories, which might better be called Golden Tales of the Old Southwest, for most of them stem from the old days of open cattle ranges, mining towns and border troubles. Well-chosen, as in all these anthologies, and representative of the best tales that have come out of the southwest:- Mary Austin, Frank Dobie, Alfred Henry Lewis, Stewart Edward White, William Saroyan, Ross Santee, Charles M. Russell, Helen Hunt Jackson and others. There's O. Henry's familiar Cisco Kid. There's good Indian material -- legendary and mystical -- from Charles Fletcher Lummis. There is indicated a story from Steinbeck's Pastures: of Heaven, missing in the galley proof, but a surety in the finished book. A good item for California and the Southwest; a standard volume for regional shelves in libraries everywhere; a robust collection for any man (or woman) who likes first rate Westerns.
