KIRKUS REVIEW

There is nothing to crow about in this minimal book which offers as little entertainment as a story about a sea captain and a chicken with a nose for gold could. On one of the Captain's stops, Cluck sniffed out a chestful of treasure, but was appelled by the large bird that stood guard until the Captain lured it away with grains of corn. That's all there is to it, and the pared down language plucks away any interesting details. The woodcut illustrations are colorful, but crudely done. Chicken feed for the beginning reader.
