The story of a believable summer situation combines an easily read vocabulary with a lot of try-it-yourself information. Jim is seven, can't swim and isn't even sure he likes the idea of getting his head wet. Taunting by new summer resort acquaintances doesn't help, but by eavesdropping on swimming classes, practice on his own and the impetus of a small panic, Jim swims. It reads smoothly and Calde winner Keats' illustrations are brightly decorative while being quietly informative.
