KIRKUS REVIEW

This posthumous collection, which dates from 1928, is a happy memorial to its artist and as such is introduced with an appreciation by John Mason Brown and a memoir by James Reid Parker, both pieces so fitting and so lovingly delightful there is little more that can be said. This timeless portrayal of the American matron will bring smiles rather than loud laughter, and a sense of recognition in the gentle rather than harsh caricature. The absurd and the affectionate make a happy combination.
