As much a biography of the teacher as the student, this book, the third juvenile biography on Helen Keller of the 1958-59 season, tells the painful but inspiring story of Anne Sullivan and her protege. Stressing more than the other books the difficulties Miss Sullivan had as a child--her bout with blindness--her ardor for her work is dramatically established. The usual summation of both women's accomplishments and their personal deprivations are given due and sympathetic scrutiny here. It may be hoped that, for at least a time, no further books on the subject will be forthcoming since inevitably much repetition occurs.
