The life history of a Red-Tailed Hawk, who, with his mother, hunts for mice, rabbits, skunks and other small game in a wonderful, mountainous green country area of the northeast. In due season they migrate with others to the south and the little hawk grows into the great hunting tradition. There is a questionable appeal in the episodes of death from the skies for the forest animals, and in the amount of swift, plunging talons; there is too the ever-present query as to the advisability of an approach to animal life that makes a strong, sympathetic identity between animals and children; these are issues that are very personal to the buyer and reader of a book of this type.
