KIRKUS REVIEW

Several of the sportswomen discussed here are anything but ""famous""--i.e., bowler Judy Cook Soutar; World Cup downhill skier Cindy Nelson; and miler Francie Larrieu. Still, you've probably heard of Janet Lynn (figure skater); Micki King (the former Air Force Captain who took an Olympic Gold Medal in platform diving); Kathy Whitworth (""the Jack Nicklaus of women's golf"" who's earned over $500,000 on the links); Billie Jean King; and swimmer Shirley Babashoff. Just O.K.
