LIGHT BEFORE DUSK by Helen Iswolsky

LIGHT BEFORE DUSK

By

Publisher: Longmans, Green

Third in Longmans' Golden Measure Series, and a worthy addition. The author is the daughter of Russia's Ambassador to France before the first World War. She has lived in Paris since 1923 and is a convert to the Roman Church. Her story is convincing and well written, and we agree with the estimate Jacques Maritain makes of her in his introduction. She is eminently fair and unbiased for such a keen and enthusiastic Catholic. One appreciates her poise and balance which not even her flight from Paris in 1940 could jar, as she escaped to join her mother and friends of the Temps Present, the newspaper on which she had been working. Her autobiography also includes material on the Catholic Revival and social reform of the past twenty years.
