Palmsville, Flor was the scene of countless hurricanes through the years. Since Jack Farren's first traumatic encounter with a storm at age five, he had not been able to compensate for his incurable fear. When his father is killed in a hurricane, Jack decides to face his fear head on by enlisting in the Naval Aviation School and thereby gaining access to the elite Hurricane Squadron. After serving in the anti-sub patrol and flying multi engine craft, Jack is finally accepted in the Squadron. As a hurricane fighter he embarks on missions patrolling the Caribbean and flying directly into storm centers in order to supply invaluable information and warning to the public. Once the plot is underway, Jack Frrne's story takes second place to the descriptions of hurricane fighters in general -- a fact which should please bogs interested in an unusual branch of the armed services.
