WESTERING WOMEN

Pub Date: April 7th, 1961

The author has ably researched the biographies of 14 pioneer women who helped settle the West. Backgrounds, motivations and contributions differ in each case, but their dauntless courage and their ability to endure hardship are common denominators which bind these women into one group. Age created no barrier to heroism. Eighteen year old delicate Susan Shelby accompanied her husband on the unknown trail into Mexican territory, one hundred year old Harriet Adkison gave care and solace to the pioneers on the Idaho Prairie, Elizabeth Custer, wife of the famous general, spent most of her life in strange western outposts. Other biographies include the lives of Rose Mitchell Hull, Eliza Snow, Tabitha Brown, Amanda Burks. These short sketches are sure to stimulate further reading.
