THE COLONEL'S LADY by Helen Montgomery

THE COLONEL'S LADY

By

Pub Date: Nov. 22nd, 1943
Publisher: Farrar & Rinehart

Pert petticoat commentary on the Old Army as a Colonel's lady recapitulates her days as a Lieutenant's wife, from 1924 on. A Lieutenant stayed a Lieutenant, on Lieutenant's pay, for years instead of months; they shuttled from post to post, braved the rigueurs of official etiquette and entertainment musts. They got an assignment to China, and raised a family in Tientsin. Then a succession of posts back home, and finally Congress passed a bill permitting young officers to rise in rank. Pleasant, personal reperusal of the difficulties and recompenses of the Army as a life.
