THE PAINTED BED

Good old fashioned romance with a modern setting. Spain on the verge of civil war, and a touch of melodrama in the motive of long-cherished revenge which -- achieved -- wrecks hav in many interlocked lives. It is a story memorable chiefly for a well paced plot and good background picture of mountaineer life, impinging briefly on life of the town. The characters are fairly stereotyped; the brief glimpse of conflicting forces and warring loyalties, of families split internally, as the war starts is suggestive but not very profound in handling. A good yarn -- for rental libraries chiefly.
