A small Peruvian-Indian boy is the hero of this story. He makes his living by blacking boots in front of the Governor's palace in Lima, keeping out of the way of the police who would put him in the Home for Orphans. The story of Pizarro, Peru's first governor, and the loyalty of two page boys, inspires Paco and when the chance comes, with the help of the other street boys he knows, he foils a plot to murder the present Governor. This wins him a place in the Governor's household. The story will seem exciting and wonderful, rather than improbable, to young readers, and Paco's love for animals and the city of Lima will inspire interest in a faraway country.
