Third and fourth grade readers who have just ""discovered"" mysteries will find this rather mild family mystery story to their liking. And the fact that the three children are orphans, 11-year old twins and a small brother, come to spend some time with unknown relatives, makes the start of the book one that captures the imagination. The diary of a great-grandmother tells of a secret drawer in the old Crosby family homestead with spooky rooms and old furniture -- and eventually it is found and the children's visit ends happily in adoption. Competent enough in the telling, but similar to many predecessors.
