INTRODUCING PATTI LEWIS, HOME ECONOMIST

The things that happen to bright, personable Patti during her first year as a home economist include a change of jobs from a Chicago electric kitchenware firm to a downstate flour mill as their test kitchens' supervisor. It is at Mid-West Flour Mills that Patti meets young Jim Wheeler, who is just starting to take over the business from his father. She also meets a set of problems. First there is the antagonizing sales manager, Feist, who thinks women are no good on the job. Then there are the Guthries, in particular Grace, who want to merge Mid-West with their own mills and they get Feist on their side. Patti manages a stall off long enough for Guthrie's deviltry to reveal itself in an undercutting of Mid-West prices, and to see herself firmly in the good graces of Jim who wants a working partner as well as a wife, Roses with the biscuits.
