Eve Miller's career as a medical technologist is a formulated mystery-romance rather than an honest bout with lab work and test tubes. Preparatory school at Central College brings Eve into contact with Larry, a medical student at nearby Beacon Hospital, and with Jeff, a serious researcher who is working on a drug to cure the common cold. Jeff befriends Eve (no romantic interest), entrusts her with his secret (never explained to the reader) which later enables her and Larry to track down Beacon's quack of a head doctor who is after Jeff's honors. Caught crooks and wedding bells gloss over the fact that the drug is a flop anyway. No elbow grease here.
