EXPLORER OF THE UNIVERSE by Helen Wright

EXPLORER OF THE UNIVERSE

Publisher: Dutton

George Ellery Hale, 1868-1938, was an American astronomer noted as the organizer of great observatories at Yerkes, Mt. Palomar, Mt. Wilson, and ad, hired by his colleagues as a great instrumentalist, observer and theoretician. His contributions to modern astrophysics were recognized in the naming of the great Hale telescope. Since she was approached to write this book in 1948, the author has concentrated on research to provide a definitive documentary of Hale's genius and career. This is a first and monumental study which will no doubt be of interest for its scrupulously detailed minutiae to readers in the sciences and collectors of California, for Hale's active commitments included both Cai Tech and the Huntington Library.
