CROSSROADS OF THE BUCCANEERS

The best book on the Windward and Leeward Islands that I have read -- and I've read a lot. Although De Lecuw, the Dutch traveller, visited the islands of which he writes, he has not done an intimate and personal sort of gossipy account of his trip, but has traced the history of each island, anecdotes connected with the islands, and given vivid pictures of the islands as they are today, what to see and how to see it. Occasional personal bits -- but primarily informative book for the Caribbean-bound voyager. Recommend to anyone taking a freighter trip to the smaller islands, where the conventional boats do not stop, Lush writing -- but it suits that part of the world.
