KIRKUS REVIEW

Mr. Ruitenbeek (a psychotherapist and professor) has assembled a group of monographs- more psychoanalytical than sociological (due to availability of the former, lack of the latter) in content, beginning with Freud's Letter to an American Mother offering little hope of help. Later practitioners have reversed his view that homosexuality is basic and causal and some of the material here deals with changing concepts and therapeutic approaches. Among the inclusions, Abram ardiner's The Flight from Masculinity, Robert Lindner's Homosexuality and the Contemporary Scene (and the animus which exists), Simone de Beauvoir's The Lesbian. While this is intended for the layman, it predicates an interested layman for much of this is clinical literature at a fairly advanced level which will also be suitable for those training for professional work in psychiatry, sociology, etc.
