KIRKUS REVIEW

A full dimensional portrait of that shrewd, tenacious, stubborn, wily, politician who is defined in his own words -- ""I am a man of compromises"". rres, a great lawyer, who knew level over a period of years, is well equipped to write this portrait of the man -- and the country which lay in his hands. As a boy level learned to take the exact measure of men and things; one of the early socialists, he notoriety through his socialist-anarchist political affiliations, and after his election as a socialist deputy, quickly dropped the contacts which brought him into power. As a lawyer, as a person, he was always the ""political animal"" who knew when to veer -- from communism to fascism. And by the class, through the coalition of ""shady financiers and business men, wirepullers, vensl journalists, exploiters? of corruption"", etc. Laval?, more than any single man precipitated the downfall of France.
