GREEN MOUNTAIN VERSE

The Vermont Federation of Women's Clubs stages contests in creative writing. This collection of modern Vermont verse is drawn from the material submitted, selected and edited by two poets. A few professionals are included, Vermont's best known chronicler, Walter Hard; the daughter of Vermont's bard, Frances Frost; Arthur Guiterman the Laings, Ann Batchelder, and others who have been drawn to Vermont. But the bulk of material is contributed by newcomers, and there is poetry of all kinds (good and bad), largely simple in technique and theme, and regional in feel, with some that is purely personal, some universal. Rather limited -- but today, with men in the service demanding more and more verse, there is an added market to reach.
