As career information books go, this is a very brisk one. What Mr. Lent has successfully attempted is an overall view of the many jobs available to technicians, researchers and administrators in the government's space activities. The overriding glamor of the astronaut has tended to hide the fact that he is the creature of the groundlings whose work has made his position possible. By describing various people on their jobs in getting men and satellites into space, the author has made the work personal, rather than rarefied, allowing the reader to glimpse real people with real responsibilities. The emphasis is on a strong engineering background as the educational ideal, but not at the expense of the other multifarious talents that the space program draws on. There is a list, not long enough to be defeating, of other concise, up-to-date material on careers in space-associated jobs.
