KIRKUS REVIEW

A forty year history of the U.S. with the present war indicated as a decisive turning point in both external and internal history of the American people. A factual book, with maps, diagrams and bibliographies for each chapter, somewhat on the textbook side, though useful for anyone who wants a reference book which will correlate events before the turn of the century and coming up to 1940. Various aspects of the changing scene, economic, social and political, foreign, financial, regional, labor and agriculture, immigration, national, state and local -- a wide range. A workmanlike rather than inspirational job.
