THAT LOFTY SKY

The author of Country Editor spins a good yarn, a bit on the wish-fulfillment side, but with more meat than usual. The time is 1938 -- and the breakdown of ingrained Naziism in a yound naval cadet, as his ship visits South Africa, and through circumstances beyond his control, he is sent wandering with a native, Jacob, to avoid arrest for desertion. There is manhunt, romance and a serious side to the adventure, with Naziism weighed against human freedom, with an English girl tipping the balance, and then renigging until he can make his own regeneration sure.
