ONCE MORE THE THUNDERER

By

Pub Date: Nov. 17th, 1950
Publisher: Ives Washburn

A successor, after ten years, to the successful Country Editor, this reflects again the same kindly participation in and affection for a community and its characters (Martha's Vineyard) and forms a friendly, familiar record of years of service. There is Josie, who worked for him as a youngster, whose childhood was scarred by epileptic spells and a father who drank and disappeared; the lady who drank vanilla during prohibition; Miss Kirk who at 65 started an Animal Rescue League; Jared Westbury, who lived a year less than a century; summer sob-sisters- the three young nieces of Alexander Woollcott and summer people, among them Thurber, Frank Sullivan and Katherine Cornell; and the major drama of two hurricanes, two murder cases and the war. A casual country weekly chronicle which is recognizable and rewarding.
