TORY DAVERN

How a boy's hatred of his Tory father's domination drives him to friendship with the Jethrops, smugglers and underground fighters for the freedom of the colonies. Caught by a press gang, Roger serves three years in the British navy, escapes and plays the part of a Tory fop while serving his country as a spy, fearing not death, but the brand of coward, particularly from Jane, who loves but does not understand him. He is jailed, held on a prison ship, but Jane -- understanding better -- aids him and his cause, and eventually they are reunited. Sense of period and authentic background sided -- by host of historical personages.
