A NEW JERSEY READER

By

Publisher: Rutgers Univ. Press

This is a collection of nearly twenty articles and stories which have as their common characteristic the fact that they have something to do with the state of New Jersey. Many of the selections have been taken from longer works, for example, Andrew Mellick's recreation of 18th century colonial life in The Story of an Old Farm. Karl Baarslag's account of Two Jersey Shore Wrecks, and Marguerite F. Bayliss' The Colfax Fox from Bolinvar. There are interesting articles on the Jersey Meadows by John Brooks from The New Yorker and on the disappearing Jackson Whites, also from The New Yorker. Other writers represented are: Alexander Woollcott, Edward Weks, Stephen Crane, Fletcher Pratt, J.C. Furnas, Owen Johnson, and Frank R. Stockton. It's a varied collection and proves to be of more general interest than one would have supposed.
