DAUGHTERS IN LAW

Some very fancy -- and fast (English version) legal footwork attends Major Claude Buttonstep -- whose family background is so litigation-ridden that he will do anything rather than seek the law for redress -- when his two sons fall in love with the twin daughters of Mr. Justice Coombe. When he learns that Jane is a barrister and is a solicitor there's no betting on the banns being published. But when Trotter, a newcomer, borrows the Major's power mower and refuses to return it he forces his law-hating neighbor to hire Jane and Prunella to take the case -- now brewing up to slander. With their father's help, the girls take the case through every type of lingering and malingering, through four judges (who find for the Major), through every sort of legal obfuscation and preposterous tedium of terminology -- even trough Trotter admits that he is pleased to be ""awkward"". Their handling --and his less than heady victory, persuades the Major that these are the girls for his boys.....The girls' fledgling cases, the machinery of British laws and courts, and the utter lunacy of the Buttonstep-Trotter proceedings could win even the non -legally minded -- should please those who delight in legal garrulity-should trick everyone by its whip ending. Fun.
