NO BAIL FOR THE JUDGE

In spite of its tendency to sermonize, the sordid and seamy business of prostitution in London is handled unsensationally when Sir Edwin Prout, a High Court judge, is tried at Old Bailey for the murder of Flossie. Sir Edwin's daughter, formidable, vigilant, Elizabeth, hires a sophisticated burglar to ferret out evidence, to be turned into legal proof, that her father is innocent. Low carries on a psychological warfare that searchlights the oldest profession and wins Sir Edwin his freedom, and himself, Elizabeth. Complicated but competent.
