TESTING, ITS PLACE IN EDUCATION TODAY

Throughout Mr. Chauncey maintains a modified, qualified approach- indicating limitations as well as assets- in his discussion of intelligence tests or scholastic aptitude (a gauge to learning capacity); achievement tests (a measure of knowledge and skills learned); the test as both a teaching aid and riterion of teaching itself; college entrance admissions and the tests used by the more and the less selective colleges. This chapter will certainly be of most interest to parents today, along with some advice on how to improve the test results. The true and false on present day practices which are such powerful determinants in school and college placement- a reality whether desirable or not.
