TESTING, ITS PLACE IN EDUCATION TODAY

For parents, teachers and ""interested school board members"", this is an over-view of current testing techniques applied at the various school levels with hort account of what preceded even Binet and Terman. Throughout Mr. Chauncy maintains a modified, qualified approach- indicating limitations as well as assets- in his discussion of intelligence tests or scholastic aptitude (a gauge to learning capacity); achievement tests (a measure of knowledge and skills learned); the test s both a teaching aid and a criterion of teaching itself; college entrance admissions and the tests used by the more and the less selective colleges. This chapter will certainly be of most interest to parents today, along with some advice on how to improve the test results. The true and false on present day practices which, ghtly or wrongly, are such powerful determinants in school and college placement- reality whether desirable or not.
