KIRKUS REVIEW

This new edition of Thoreau's work has been edited by Dudley C. Lunt who in deleting many of the poems and longer passages has kept much of the thoughtful beauty of the original work intact. None of the original text included has been altered and reading smoothly as it does, there is the full and pensive sweep of the journeys. A fine addition for collector's libraries, the book has many handsome pen and ink drawings by Henry Bugbee Kane. It is a more readable edition but still perhaps, not to be compared to the original for its more lasting effects.
