A valiant young emergency-room physician lands herself in the soup when she fails to save the life of a heartless New York capitalist's wayward daughter—in the latest from moral-medical specialist Denker (Payment in Full, A Gift of Life, etc. etc.). Ultradedicated third-year resident Kate Forrester is busy giving the wounded of Manhattan's underclass the best she can—but her best is not good enough for Claudia Stuyvesant, who's shown up at City Hospital's emergency room with a lot of vague complaints and her domineering mother. With not much more than an upset tummy for a symptom, the fabulously rich Miss Stuyvesant expires on the gurney, the victim of a hemorrhaging ectopic pregnancy. Claudia's father, a fabulously wealthy property developer, promptly sues everybody in sight. Everybody settles out of court except our Kate. Mr. Stuyvesant wants Kate's hide nailed to the wall, and he insists on taking her before the state medical board, where his incredible wealth and political power will see to it that she never practices medicine again. Midwestern pluck won't be enough to see Dr. Forrester through this ordeal. She needs the help of a good lawyer—and gets it in the lanky form of Scott Van Cleve, a professional every bit as dedicated and pure as herself. General Hospital.
