ERROR OF JUDGMENT

Welcome to the world of gynecology—meet the doctors of State University Hospital. Big Man is Dr. Harvey Prince, "Goldfingers," slick with a scalpel and slicker with his stock market play. But here comes upright resident Craig Pearson, whose admiration for Prince's work in utero freezes when he observes Goldfingers make an unnecessary bilateral oophorectomy (removal of both ovaries) from young about-to-be-married Cynthia. (Craig and Cynthia have become chums because they're both orphans.) Now not only will Cynthia not be able to have her own children, but because of an unanticipated thrombosis, she won't be able to take estrogen and will shrivel into menopause. Craig and a sleuthing psychiatrist girlfriend begin the long fight against a formidable establishment to expose Prince, churning up the surgeon's ugly past, with the predictable victorious finale. In fact, the entire scenario is predictable and crudely assembled, but the subcutaneous medical detail (which may scare the D-and-C crowd witless) is sure to attract an audience more concerned with the inside information than the art of the novel.
