MADAME RECAMIER

It seems incredible that a man of Sedgwick's stature can do so flimsy, prosaic and totally uninspired a biography as this. To be sure, he had not a particularly inspiring character, but she surrounded herself with the personalities of her day. The handling of the material is incredible, ""historical glosses"" serve as fillers reconstructed playlets between characters, rococo style and artifical embelishments.
