KIRKUS REVIEW

Overweight Bertie, hero of Bertie Comes Through is again deprived of triumphant participation in camp experience, when Ted and Wiggins, his H.S. pals, go as counsellors and he is left in town, trailed by his tag-along little brother. Bertie makes the best of things, and when the coach asks him to help, he takes over a group of ragamuffins, organizes a ball team and sees his team beat the fancy camp team. Portrait of a boy who frequently fails, who has faults of all sorts, and yet emerges as alive, funny and likable.
