KIRKUS REVIEW

The Presiding Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church has made available in published form the Lyman Beecher lectures delivered by him at Yale last year. They reveal that this church leader has a broad and deep comprehension of the forces at work in the modern world and the role of Christianity in attempting to cope with them. There is nothing startlingly new either in the Bishop's diagnosis of the world's ills or in his suggestions for a cure, but it is reassuring to have the leader of this great Church revealed as such a clear-eyed, broad- gauged, deeply spiritual man. It is a book which clergymen of all denominations and many Protestant laymen will find helpful and stimulating.
