BALANCE OF POWER: The Negro Vote

A presentation of the Negro's position in politics, both past and present, at a time when the Negro is beginning to exert increasing political influence, particularly in the South where for two generations his suffrage rights have been nullified. Roosevelt, whose New Deal included the first basic equalitarian policy; the unjustified charge of venality- that the Negro vote is more purchasable than the white; the historical resistance to Negro suffrage to its blackout with the poll tax; political promises, failures, and the protests which have occurred; the Communist attempt to gain Negro support; the Negro as a politician, and the strength of his ballot; how he will vote in 1948, and what he wants- the elimination of Jim Crow. Of particular immediacy this year, and of interest along political rather than sociological lines, but otherwise limited.
