At the start this collection of papers seems dated and one wonders why they are being published at this time. As one goes along the realization grows that the chronology provides its own historical importance. Back in May 1939 the hell of the Diaspora was a horror and threat to Jewish children; it is here the collection begins. The picture at that time showed the imperative need to open the tiny corner of Palestine to the tortured millions. Hers was a plea to the world, but especially to the workers. From this point the papers carry through to the tenth anniversary of independence, to the contribution the young nation of Israel was giving to the new nations of Africa, to a plea for disarmament with accepted supervision, for steps to be taken toward world peace. In between the papers reflect the forward steps, the problem of the Arab refugees and the offer of a Jewish solution, of Israel's own refugee problem, of the labor problem and unemployment, of Egypt and the border issues and of Suez. One of the world's most important women, Israel's representative to the UN for many years, deserves to be listened to. Here are terse but telling statements of what she believes.
