To anyone who has spent any time observing shore birds from New England to Florida gulf waters -- and the length of the Pacific Coast, this study of shore birds from the far north of their migration breeding grounds, surely reveals many new vistas of appreciation and understanding. Too often they are lumped with gulls and terns. This careful study clarifies them, identifies the more familiar and typical species, includes basic facts about less known shore birds, and given data on South American shore birds. As a reference tool it is perhaps a trafic outsize, but the beautiful format, the 95 drawings by John Henry Dick, the ornnithological contributions of Roland C. Clement combine to make this an important book for the natural history shelves.
