To be stressed as but generally pleasing to adventure lovers and as supplementary reading in history, the unusual and freehanded presentation of the story of Lief Ericson is a roaring tale. When Olaf of Norway cast his sights on Iceland and his advance patrol in the person of a Christian priest, arrived in the homeland of Lief, son of Eric the Red, the Icelanders foresaw a threat to their national and religious security. Although the priest is finally defeated by Lief after his return from Vinland -- across the Western sea -- it is clear, however, that the old gods, the old ways are gone forever.
