An excellent reference book, for all sorts of information, collected from experts and dependable sources, on all matters canine. The material is handled with careful organization: -- a general section on the history of the dog, activities of the dog, and the dog in sport, hunting, trials, racing, and show, is followed by classification by breeds recognized officially by the AKC; the next two sections have to do with the physical and mental health of the dog, feeding, kenneling, and choosing a dog, (there's an excellent inclusion on the dog and the law), and the training, handling and grooming, the various clubs, books, registers, magazines, etc., etc. There is an appendix of rules for trials and standards and an index. For an overall picture of dogdom this should fill a need, answered heretofor by special issues of magazines or club publications.
