For those whose business or hobby is diving for underwater treasure or archaeological remains this will be a useful compendium of facts, history, geography, and necessary information. Its first section covers the general routes of pre- communication-era treasure shipping and the whereabouts of the cargoes, instruction on research, search and salvage, data on treasure already accounted for, the specifics of wreck identification (hulls, woods, monies and metals, weapons, etc.) and particulars of submarine archaeology yet to be explored. Part two is an around the world geography locating sites of sunken ships with estimates of the value of their cargoes, their history and accounts of their travels and disasters- and the possibility of reclaiming anything from them. The appendices contain abbreviations used, a chronological index of the sunken treasures (with asterisks to indicate confirmed treasure available to the SCUBA diver, those specially interesting, and those of tremendous appeal), a bibliography and index.
