Thesis novel, seemingly authentic (perhaps autobiographical?) bur for a definitely limited audience. The story of Hollis, a lanky country boy with a sound head and a fighting spirit, who leaves his small town to get ahead in a large automobile industrial city. There he finds all the sins of labor and capital which he bucks, head on:- summer layoff, pressure, speed-up, Negro discrimination, and the futility of the individual. He joins the Union, and then fights their violence tactics and the organizer's professional agitation. A near lynching, a threatened strike, and Hollis braves attacks on both sides to effect a settlement between them.
