A reprint, with certain condensations, of the three volumes of Changes and Chances, with a preface by John Masefield. Dipping in here and there to refresh my memory, I found myself again caught by the contagious charm of the writer, his facility of expression, his gift of story-telling and anecdote and characterization. He has known ""everyone"" in his time -- and had a finger in many pies, political, journalistic, social, literary. And it's good reading. A welcome reissue, particularly in the one volume form.
