SECRET LIFE OF A SECRET AGENT

Told in the first person -- the life story of a French secret agent, as told presumably to Lanier. Childhood background, under the disciplinary supervision of an autocratic father first, then a Jesuit school, finally the army itself, his inheritance through thirty generations. After two years overseas, he was selected for secret service work. The most interesting part of the book deals with his training and his pre-war and war experiences. Unfortunately, this part of the book is slim, compared to the build-up. Not up to the Landau books. Glibly written and somewhat second rate.
