BAGHDAD- BY- THE- BAY

By

Publisher: Doubleday

It would take a real San Francisco enthusiast (their name is legion) to accept this book at face value, for here is no thoughtfully conceived and organized portrait of a city, but what reads like a notebook of a correspondent's jottings, or a scissors and paste job done by a columnist, out of his own columns. The charm is there- for all who have felt it- there are flash notes that help recapture it, down to its sounds and smells, as well as its ever-changing beauty. Personalities- seasons- landmarks- moods- seasons of the year- eating places- San Francisco past and present-the foreign quarters -- the little stores- nights in San Francisco- many worlds in one- a potpourri of the city.
